<image:caption>The manufacturing industry represents close to 15 percent of the United States’ gross domestic product (GDP). Manufacturing by definition is the “mechanical, physical or chemical transformation of materials, substances or other components into new products.” Companies involved in manufacturing fall within many different categories (see codes below). While bigger operations are commonly described as plants, factories or mills, smaller facilities that make use of the materials produced by the initial manufacturers also fall under this industry. Whether they work in production, shipping and receiving or transportation, your employees require workers’ comp coverage. <image:title>Cannabis Workers' Compensation - Cannabis - Marijuana</image:title>
<image:caption>As the market grows and the legalization of cannabis expands nationally, the need for workers’ compensation grows as well. The classifications applicable to medical marijuana growing, processing, and sales, and the manufacture of medical marijuana products are also applicable to similar operations pertaining to recreational marijuana. However, the most common classification assignments applicable to medical cannabis operations also apply to equivalent recreational marijuana operations. Cannabis or marijuana cultivation can occur indoors or outdoors, using conventional or hydroponic methods. Cannabis cultivation is assigned to Classification 0035, Florists – cultivating or gardening, as the cannabis buds are in fact flowers. Classification 0035 also includes initial trimming to prepare the harvested buds for sale. In certain situations, growers send the product to trimming specialists for processing and packaging. If the buds are only trimmed but not packaged for individual sale, Classification 0035 is assignable. If the trimming specialist also packages the product for individual sale, Classification 4611, Drug, Medicine or Pharmaceutical Preparations Mfg., is assignable because it includes the production (compounding, blending or packaging) of drugs. The production of extracts and concentrates, including but not limited to hashish, hash oil, tinctures and products for vaporizing, is also assigned to Classification 4611. The manufacture of cannabis-infused food products (“edibles”) that are not baked goods is classified as 6504, Food Products Mfg. or Processing. Examples include infused candies, butter for home baking and coffee mixes. The manufacture of cannabis-infused baked goods such as cookies or brownies is classified as 2003, Bakeries and Cracker Mfg. The manufacture of cannabis-infused beverages is classified as 2163, Bottling – beverages. <image:title>Farming and Agriculture Workers' Compensation - Farming and Agriculture</image:title>
<image:caption>We offer workers’ compensation for farms of all types. Whether you raise animals or are harvesting produce we can offer you insurance. Additionally, are you a farmer who needs seasonal or temporary workers for planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops but domestic workers are in short supply? The H-2A temporary agricultural workers program – often called the H-2A visa program - helps American farmers stay compliant and covered. The H-2A temporary agricultural program helps employers who anticipate a lack of available domestic workers to bring foreign workers to the U.S. to perform temporary or seasonal agricultural work including, but not limited to, planting, cultivating, or harvesting labor. Depending on the type of work you need, temporary or seasonal agricultural work can happen on farms, plantations, ranches, nurseries, ranges, greenhouses, orchards, or other similar locations. Seasonal work is when you need more help than usual because the work is tied to a certain time of year by an event or pattern, like a short annual growing cycle. Temporary work lasts no longer than 1 year.
