AVOIDING BURNOUT AND REDUCING INJURY

Burnout is all too common among many different workplaces. From small business to huge Fortune 500 companies, many employees can’t avoid the overwhelming stress, anxiety, and exhaustion of work. In an article written by Patricia Harman, mentions the feelings of burnout as exhaustion, frustration, cynicism, performance slacking, poor social interaction, insomnia, and potentially physical health issues. These are signs that employers should look out for if they want to keep an eye on their employees and make sure they are taken care of. In another article by Courtney DuChene, Courtney discusses the physical health issues that can stem from burnout. DuChene discusses a study by the European Journal of Preventative Cardiology which states that some of the health issues that can transpire from burnout are atrial fibrillation, blood clots, and potentially more serious health issues like stroke. High levels of stress, inflammation, and hormone levels as well as the heart issues mentioned previously from DuChene’s article, are all potential problems when it comes to workers comp claims. When employees are experiencing mental health problems, and physical problems that come along with those, the risk of an accident at work increases significantly. By reducing burnout, the potential of reduce injury in the workplace increases. Harman mentions six ways that employees could reduce burnout, including getting more sleep, exercise, and taking a break when needed. Employers should be willing to help their employees when they decide to express themselves and ask for help. See the two articles below for more information on burnout, and how to avoid it:
