CDC revises mask guidance for health care workers

 Since COVID-19 took over back in 2020, masks have been a staple precaution in the transmission of the infection. Recently, the Center for Disease Control has changed their guidelines to state that wearing a mask in a healthcare setting may no longer be required is the community COVID-19 transmission levels are low. Of course, it is still a personal choice if healthcare workers still choose to wear masks, and it is always recommended along with handwashing to prevent the spread, but it is no longer required. The guideline specifically states that masks do not have to be used “as a mitigation measure once no new cases have been identified for 14 days”. While the CDC has updated their guidelines, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has not updated their guidelines since August 2021. It is a huge step in the direction that this pandemic is officially almost over, but regardless, individuals are encouraged to stay safe, especially around those who are immunocompromised and at high risk for infection.
